The Mack MP8 is a 13-liter engine that is capable of achieving between 415 to 505 hp, and torque from 1,460 to 1,860 lb.-ft. The MP8 had undergone some developments in its time, in 2010 - SCR (Selective Catalytic Regeneration) was introduced for both the MP7 and MP8. This technology provided major advantages regarding fuel economy and performance while topping the 2010 emissions standards.
All engines within the MP Series house intake throttles that improve heat management. They aid to increase the exhaust gas temperature at idle and low load, thereby increasing the efficiency of the exhaust aftertreatment. The MP8 is reported to be considered a legend among operators due to its high amount of horsepower and torque across a broad operating range.

Mack MP8 Engine Replacement Options
At times the reality is your engine is beyond saving, there are many defects that can impair your engine, but not all mean your engine is a goner. At times, your MP8 may just need a couple of new parts, or maybe it just needs a brief refreshment to keep it in working order. We do in fact understand that considerations such as time, money, availability, etc will all impact your decision-making – to that end, we have provided some insight by presenting both pros and cons of a new engine from a dealer.
For those of you reading this that are unfortunate enough to have seen your engine suffers a fatal malfunction, a remanufactured MP8 long block would be the ideal answer. Additionally, if you have decent re-usable external components that are still in good order, then these can be salvaged from your previous MP8 engine. Most importantly, this would be a good substitute if you are trying to save some cash.
We constantly strive to maintain a professional level of service, whatever the mission. In the sphere of remanufacturing, we guarantee this level of quality is sustained by first performing a full core tear down, cleaning, inspection, and machining of your MP8. This is carried out on every engine before it leaves our facility.
It is important to note, that all of our MP8 remanufactured long blocks are built with both reman and new parts. Therefore, we do not just recondition or refurbish old parts, instead, we fully rebuild the old MP8 engine back to its initial OEM specs.
Vigilant cleaning is essential during our process; therefore, we make a special effort to relieve your engine of any contaminations that could promote, catalyze or cause both component failure or entire engine failure. This is done by stripping the MP8, then putting the blocks, heads, rods, crankshafts, and camshafts through a chemical jet wash or hot tank.
Before our quality control division inspect the completed product, the crankshafts are precision machined to the precise tolerances, polished and magnafluxed.
Heads are resurfaced to assure a proper sealing surface with the block and a finish consistent with today's new gasket materials. Valve height is mic-d and every head is vacuum tested to assure correct valve seating.
The block is examined for any cracks or other damage with magnetic particles to ensure nothing is missed. The cylinders and then bored honed and again inspected to the specific tolerances. Torque plate honing is performed on particular engines to eradicate the chances of cylinder head distortion after the head is bolted and torqued to the block. This process removes the main source of engine blow-by. Block surfaces are then machined and examined to ensure a proper finish.
Camshafts are inspected and precisely machined to provide the correct lift. Lobs are measured with a micrometer to make sure OEM tolerances are met.
In order to achieve an even distribution of stress on all the bearings, the connecting rods are cleansed, then machined to OEM specs, then honed to the usual diameter of the original equipment. New bushings are also fitted and machined in all bushed rods, every rod is also inspected for any bend and/or twist.
Great performance and dependability are what we strive for, therefore, all MP8 engines will obtain a set of new parts such as pistons and rings, bearings, gaskets and sealers, and liners. These parts are comprised of both OEM and Aftermarket when accessible.

Remanufactured Engines Standards
To best define remanufacture, would be to produce something that is as close to new as possible. In pursuit of this, all the wearable parts are routinely replaced. All MP8 core materials are then thoroughly inspected and examined against original equipment specifications for correct dimensional tolerances. Replacement parts are either new or requalified. If new, parts are made in the same production processes as original equipment. Testing is performed to manufacturer specifications and original production standards.
